What you actually buy
| List / sale | What that money is for | |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | $99 / $74.25 | ~6,000 small-business hosts. One-night default. Buy something. See winery overnight. |
| + Boondockers Welcome | $169 / $126.75 (+$70 list) |
Classic plus ~3,300 private-property hosts (driveways, acreage). Same farms. Different etiquette. |
| All Access | $179 / $134.25 (+$10 over +BW) |
Same driveways. Golf Hosts + Escapees. Not more land. See which plan. |
| Standalone BW | $79 | Driveways only. No farms or wineries. On boondockerswelcome.com, not the HH plans cards. |
Private property, not a tasting room
| Boondockers Welcome | Harvest Hosts Classic | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | Someone’s land. You are a guest. | Working small business. You are a customer overnight. |
| Stay | 1–5 nights at the host’s preference. Cap: 5 nights / 90 days with the same host. | One night is the product. Extra nights: plans FAQ “up to four total”; how-it-works “up to four extra.” |
| Money | No camping fee. Purchase not encouraged. Parking is not an income source. | No camping fee. Buy from the host. That purchase is their compensation. |
| Hookups | A privilege. Hosts only owe a parking spot. Support: over 75% offer some. If you use them, offer the amount on the profile. | Not guaranteed. Some sell electric as an extra. |
| Cooking | Function indoors. Outdoor kitchen only if that host says so. | Indoor only. Outdoor cooking prohibited. |
HH support: “Purchase at Host is encouraged — No.” Blog: no obligation to buy; hosts do this “out of the kindness of their heart.” Stay-rules: they “are not running a business, providing a service, or required in any way to tend to your needs.” First words: “Thank You.”
Stay length — quote both
BW support: “Some hosts offer a single night while others offer a maximum of five nights.” Same article and stay-rules: “guests are restricted to a maximum of 5 nights in a 90-day window with the same host.” Difference article (July 9, 2026): “up to five nights depending on the Host's preferences.”
Harvest Hosts Classic: plans FAQ — “Most stays are for one night… extra nights (up to four total nights).” How-it-works — “up to four extra nights (for a fee).” Those two HH pages still do not match. Check the host profile.
Self-contained, indoor cooking, no dumping
Same bar as Classic: interior toilet and onboard waste tanks. Tents, cars, SUVs out. Help article updated June 29, 2026. Dumping gray water on host property is prohibited. Courtesy Contract: do not dump gray water or leave garbage unless the host already lists it — do not ask. Cook inside. BW-specific cooking article: outdoor kitchen only if that host is okay; HH Classic bans outdoor cooking outright.
Last-minute is per host
BW stay-rules: each host sets a request window. Some accept same-day; some want up to 7 days’ notice; site maximum is 2 months ahead. Harvest Hosts how-it-works: over 50% of (Classic) hosts allow same-day requests. Filter Same Day for both. There is no official “show up tonight” culture — read the profile.
